NCIL gives local authorities a fantastic opportunity to work with local communities to use funding from development to support infrastructure and revenue projects in their local area.
Lewisham NCIL funding 2025-2027 will provide up to 2 years of funding for a wide range of community projects.
The total funding available for Capital and Revenue projects in Lewisham is £2,553,242.78.
Revenue projects are any project which require day to day funding for example: events, activities, services etc.
Capital projects are physical structures or pieces of equipment and its installation for example: playgrounds, community centre equipment, planters etc.
There are two NCIL funds available:
- The Borough-wide NCIL awards funding to capital and revenue projects that will benefit three or more wards in the borough or the whole of Lewisham. The total fund available is £621,732.92.
- The Ward NCIL awards funding to capital and revenue projects which benefit each of the 19 individual wards in Lewisham. The amount available in each Ward NCIL fund varies. The total fund available is £1,931,509.86
- Please note that both capital and revenue projects can be applied for from either ward or borough-wide NCIL.

Fund criteria and priorities
Project delivery: Ward NCIL projects must primarily benefit the ward fund you apply to. Borough-wide NCIL projects must benefit at least 3 wards.
NCIL Fund Criteria: All projects must show that they will address the effects of development in Lewisham and make the local area a better place to live.
Lewisham’s Corporate Priorities: All projects must show that they meet at least one of Lewisham’s priorities. These are Lewisham’s corporate priorities: Cleaner and Greener, A Strong Local Economy, Children and Young People, Safer Communities, Open Lewisham, Health and Wellbeing; and an additional Addressing Inequality priority.
Ward NCIL projects must select one of Lewisham’s corporate priorities. The Addressing Inequality priority may only be chosen as an additional priority for Ward NCIL applications.
Borough-wide NCIL applicants may choose any one or two of the priorities listed. Borough-wide projects may therefore have equalities as their only focus, if applicable.

What is NCIL?
A levy, called Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), is charged to certain new developments in the borough. In Lewisham 25% of the total raised is set aside as NCIL to be spent in conversation with local communities on Lewisham’s priorities. The rest is spent on infrastructure such as: schools, hospitals, roads, open space, and leisure facilities. Neighbourhood Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) helps make improvements across Lewisham by supporting local capital and revenue projects in every ward.
