The playground at Mayow Park is designed to be inclusive with something for everybody. Encouraging active movement and climbing skills has been a key consideration and the equipment includes a wheelchair carousel, a You and Me swing, a basket swing for all abilities, tactile and sensory play panels and a fantastic new Tree Climber and other climbing frames for different ages.
These new facilities for Mayow Park meet the obligations and aims set out in Lewisham Council’s Parks & Open Spaces Strategy. The Council has worked with a range of partners on this project including the Friends of Mayow Park, local schools, Glendale and Kompan.
Brenda Dacres, Mayor of Lewisham said:
“It was so lovely to see the children running around and having fun in their new playground at Mayow Park and I’m excited to see these fantastic new facilities now finished and in use! Thank you to all the local residents, our parks team and our partners who have helped with this project.
“Outdoor space is so vital for children and for all our residents, particularly in areas where many families do not have their own gardens. We have targeted Section 106 and NCIL funding to parts of our borough that need it the most. We hope all the children living near Mayow Park will enjoy this playground for years to come!”
