Why promotion matters
Promoting your project builds awareness, attracts users, and shows funders the impact of their support. It’s not just about visibility—it’s about demonstrating value.
Using a mix of channels - social media, posters and local events - helps you to reach different audiences in different ways.
Here is some useful information on promoting your project and the support we can offer you.
Community funding website - Add a news item
This portal is where community organisations go to make grant applications and get support. Primarily this website is used by other community organisations in Lewisham and its great for your peers to connect with you and see what you have going on.
To help you promote your project you can create your own news items for us to put on the community funding website.
How Lewisham Council Communications can help you promote your project
Lewisham Council has a number of ways to talk to Lewisham Residents
Lewisham Life Residents' E-Newsletter and Magazine
You can submit events, news items and case studies to be promoted in the weekly Lewisham Life e-newsletter and the Lewisham Life magazine twice a year.
Lewisham Council Social Media Channels
You are welcome to access and tag Lewisham Council's social media platforms to push out your message.
Lewisham Council Logo and Brand Guidance
If your event, sessions or project has been funded by a Lewisham Council grant they would love you to use their logo on any promotion, it raises the profile of your project and creates positive links and connections to things the council are supporting.
Forms, surveys and case studies
Using digital forms is a highly effective way to collect data for surveys and case studies.
Whether you're gathering feedback, conducting research, or documenting experiences, tools like Microsoft Forms and Google Forms offer a simple, structured, and accessible method for reaching participants and capturing responses.
They streamline the data collection process, support a variety of question types, and make it easy to analyse results — all while saving time and reducing paperwork.
Creating promotional materials
Creating strong promotional materials and a 'brand' helps with instant recognition, grabbing attention. Use clear and concise messaging, make them as Professional looking as possible and use clear calls to action like “Sign up” or “Learn more” to help your audience.
There are many online tools to create snazzy and eye catching posters and flyers, without the need for expensive licences or much experience. Do your research to find the platform right for you, but we enjoy using Canva.com
Don't feel overwhelmed, have a play, try things out and use the templates to help you get started.
Social media
Social Media platforms are a brilliant way to connect to your communities, shout about your project and connect with funders.
Even if your project is targeted at communities whom are less digitally engaged, many are still using one form of social media such as WhatsApp.
Think about using Instagram 📸 for sharing pictures, WhatsApp 🟢📞 for calls to action, Facebook 📘 for highlighting events and activities and Linked-In 💼 for connecting with funders.
Inviting local dignitaries
Lewisham's MP's, Mayor and your Local Ward Councillors are keen to come along to your events and activities to find out more and meet their constituents in a community setting. They are happy to open events.
While it's best to contact the Mayor through the Mayor's Office due to her very busy events schedule, you can contact your local MPs and councillors direct to invite them to visit you. Give as much notice and information as possible.
Capture the moment - Photos and Videos
Photos and videos are not just nice keepsakes for your organisation and members, but a brilliant way to promote your projects and activities on social media, websites and on your promotional materials. Funders love to see your success stories as well as part of case studies or monitoring. Remember to get consent to use the images and films from those in the pictures.
